Getting Started

How do I set up wholesale pricing on Shopify without Shopify Plus?

SmartTrade Pro is coming to the Shopify App Store soon — it will work on all paid Shopify plans (Basic, Shopify, Advanced, and Plus). Once installed:

  1. Tag your trade customers with "Trade Customer" in Shopify admin
  2. Set your wholesale discount percentage in the SmartTrade Pro dashboard
  3. Create the discount and enable the App Embed in your theme's App Embeds settings

That's it. Tagged customers will automatically receive their wholesale discount at checkout — no discount codes needed.

What Shopify plans does SmartTrade Pro work with?

SmartTrade Pro works with all paid Shopify plans: Basic, Shopify, Advanced, and Plus. You do not need Shopify Plus for wholesale pricing. The app uses Shopify Functions which are available on all paid plans.

Do my trade customers need to enter a discount code?

No. That's the main benefit of SmartTrade Pro over manual discount codes. Discounts are applied automatically at checkout based on customer tags. Your wholesale customers simply log in and shop — their trade pricing appears on product pages and is applied at checkout without any code entry.

How long does setup take?

Most merchants are up and running in under 5 minutes. Install the app, set your discount percentage, tag a customer, and test at checkout. No developer needed, no theme code to edit, no complex configuration.

What's the difference between Standard and Premium?

Standard ($25/month) gives you a single global discount percentage that applies to all tagged trade customers. It includes the trade registration form, analytics dashboard, and email support.

Premium ($49/month) adds everything you need for a more sophisticated wholesale operation:

Are there any per-order charges or commission fees?

No. SmartTrade Pro charges a flat monthly fee with no per-order charges, no commission on sales, and no hidden fees. Whether you process 10 wholesale orders or 10,000, the price stays the same.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. All new users get a 14-day free trial with full access to all features. No credit card is required to start the trial. You can try everything — including Premium features — before being charged.

How much does Shopify Plus cost compared to SmartTrade Pro?

Shopify Plus starts at $2,300/month and is designed for enterprise businesses. SmartTrade Pro starts at $25/month and provides automatic wholesale discounts, tiered pricing, and per-product overrides on any paid Shopify plan. For most small and medium businesses, SmartTrade Pro delivers the wholesale features you need at a fraction of the cost.

Wholesale Features

Can I create different discount levels for different customers?

Yes, with SmartTrade Pro Premium. You can create unlimited discount tiers — for example, Gold (25% off), Silver (20% off), and Bronze (15% off). Each tier gets its own customer tag, and customers are automatically matched to their tier's discount at checkout.

Can I exclude certain products from trade discounts?

Yes, with the Premium plan. On the Products page in SmartTrade Pro, toggle "Exclude from all trade discounts" for any product. You can also set custom discount percentages per product per tier — so Gold customers might get 25% off most items but only 10% off low-margin products.

Can I set different discounts for product variants?

Yes. SmartTrade Pro Premium supports per-variant overrides. If a product has variants (size, colour, etc.), you can set different wholesale discount percentages for each variant independently. This is useful when certain sizes or configurations have different margins.

How does the discount priority chain work?

When a trade customer checks out, SmartTrade Pro follows this priority order:

  1. If the product is excluded ("all": 0) — no discount
  2. If the variant has a tier-specific override — use that percentage
  3. If the product has a tier-specific override — use that percentage
  4. Otherwise — use the customer's tier global percentage

This gives you fine-grained control while keeping the default simple.

Trade Customer Registration

Can customers apply to become trade customers from my store?

Yes. SmartTrade Pro includes a built-in trade registration form that embeds directly into your Shopify storefront via the App Embed. Potential wholesale customers fill out the form with their company details, and you receive the application in your SmartTrade Pro dashboard for approval.

Does it validate VAT numbers?

Yes, for UK businesses. When a customer submits a trade application with a VAT number, SmartTrade Pro validates it in real time with HMRC and displays the registered company name. Approved customers with valid VAT numbers are automatically marked as tax exempt in Shopify.

What happens when I approve a trade application?

When you click Approve, SmartTrade Pro automatically:

Storefront & Display

Will trade customers see their discounted price before checkout?

Yes, with SmartTrade Pro Premium. When the App Embed is enabled, logged-in trade customers see:

Prices update automatically when variants change. Retail customers see normal pricing.

What if my theme doesn't show the trade prices?

SmartTrade Pro supports most Shopify themes including Dawn, Horizon, and other popular themes. The pricing display uses JavaScript that adapts to standard Shopify theme structures. If prices aren't displaying correctly on your theme, contact support and we'll add compatibility.

How does SmartTrade Pro apply discounts at checkout?

SmartTrade Pro uses Shopify Functions — Shopify's native discount engine that runs directly at checkout. This means discounts are applied by Shopify itself, not by an external server call. The result is zero latency, 100% reliability, and full compatibility with Shopify's checkout.

Will SmartTrade Pro slow down my store?

No. The discount calculation runs on Shopify's infrastructure via Shopify Functions, not on an external server. The storefront pricing display loads asynchronously and doesn't affect your store's page load speed or Core Web Vitals.

Does it work with Shopify's native checkout?

Yes. SmartTrade Pro uses Shopify Functions which integrate directly with Shopify's native checkout. There are no redirects, no external checkout pages, and no code injection. The discount appears naturally in the checkout flow.

Billing & Account

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel anytime through your Shopify admin under Apps > SmartTrade Pro > Manage subscription. There are no cancellation fees. When you cancel, the app continues working until the end of your current billing period.

What happens to my data if I uninstall?

All your data (tiers, orders, customer records) is automatically deleted when you uninstall the app, in compliance with Shopify's data protection requirements. Customer tags in Shopify are not removed. If you reinstall later, you'll start fresh with a new setup.

Can I switch between Standard and Premium?

Yes. You can upgrade to Premium at any time from the Plan page in the app. If you downgrade from Premium to Standard, your tiers and product overrides are removed, and the app switches to a single global discount percentage.
